Environmental Sustainability

AMSOIL has supported environmental sustainability for more than 50 years by busting the 3,000-mile oil-change myth and promoting extended drain intervals that have eliminated many gallons of waste oil.

AMSOIL Industrial products help asset managers reduce wear, improve efficiency and extend oil-change intervals in diverse industrial applications, including metal stamping, plastics manufacturing, power generation and wind turbines.

AMSOIL was the first lubricant company to achieve APQP4Wind® certification and our environmental management system is registered to the ISO 14001:2015 standard.

Carbon-Neutral Operations since 2020

AMSOIL partners with international climate consultancy firm EcoAct on a thorough annual assessment of our organizational carbon footprint that is used to plan continued carbon reduction and offsetting initiatives.

AMSOIL achieves carbon-neutral operations through the purchase of carbon offsets and renewable energy credits.

Carbon offsetting compensates for an organization’s residual greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by financing GHG reduction, avoidance and sequestration projects.

Here’s what we do:

  • Offset our scope 1 emissions by purchasing carbon credits and investing in projects that stimulate a low-carbon economy by generating electricity from renewable resources.
  • Offset our scope 2 emissions by purchasing renewable energy credits generated by wind turbines, many of which use AMSOIL Industrial lubricants in their gearboxes, hydraulics and other systems.

In fact, our Synthetic Power Transmission EP Gear Lube is approved by the top five global wind turbine manufacturers and wind gearbox manufacturers.

Scopes of Emissions. Scope 1: Direct. Emissions from sources (on site). Scope 2: Indirect. Emissions from energy/utilities. Scope 3: Indirect. Emissions of the chain supply or service.

Our 2022 offsets are equivalent to each of the following:

    Passenger vehicles driven for one year

  • More than 12k Homes

    Homes' energy use for one year

  • More than 115k Acres

    Amount of CO2 sequestered by acres of forest in one year

The EcoVadis assessment includes 21 sustainability criteria across four core themes:

We earned a silver medal in our latest rating, completed in 2023, an honor awarded to only the top 25% of more than 100,000 companies evaluated globally.

Carbon Reduction & Avoidance

We work hard to reduce energy consumption throughout our production facilities and corporate offices.

Production Facility:

  • Insulated roofing.
  • Big Ass Fans® and custom loading-dock blankets to retain heat.
  • LEED-approved light controls with occupancy sensors and timers.
  • Use of low-carbon intermodal transportation when feasible.
  • Optimized plastic, cardboard, steel drum and line-flush oil recycling.

Corporate Offices:

  • LEED-approved high-efficiency LED light fixtures with smart-switch controls.
  • High-efficiency, UV-reflective windows.
  • High-efficiency HVAC units

Waste Reduction

With focused effort, we achieved the following significant waste reductions in our facilities in just one year:

  • Landfill waste reduced by 50%, with incremental gains each year.
  • Manufacturing line-flush oil waste reduced by 67%.
